Feel Around The Top, the new SapienStone campaign telling the story of the kitchen countertop through the five senses

2020-12-02

The kitchen has very strong ties with the five senses. Sight, taste, smell, hearing and touch are all particularly stimulated in this room in the house.
Kitchen design, the colours of food, the flavours and aromas of meals being prepared, clanging kitchen utensils, people’s voices and laughter, the tactile sensations connected with handling ingredients; all these factors make the kitchen a magical place packed with memories and emotions.

The new SapienStone campaign is inspired by these connections between the senses and the kitchen, which provide the inspiration for an experiential voyage in which we are invited to explore the kitchen countertop with our eyes, mouth, nose, ears and hands.

In the Live Around The Top campaign we told stories of life around the kitchen countertop, viewing the kitchen as a space for living; now, the new Feel Around The Top campaign represents the SapienStone countertop as we experience it through our five senses. What do you hear around the kitchen countertop? What sensations does it call up in you? Your sensory organs are gateways to a whole world of emotions and sensations.
Through the five senses, we will discover the kitchen and the SapienStone countertop and all its colours, flavours, scents, sounds and sensations.

Sight is definitely one of the most deeply satisfied senses when approaching a SapienStone countertop.
The perfection of design, the refinement of detail, the veins passing through the entire thickness of the material; its aesthetic power expresses all the beauty of the materials that inspire it.
Stone, marble, cement, wood; the original materials seem to come to life right before our eyes every time we look at a SapienStone countertop.

This is an eye-catching work surface that never ceases to enthral us with its subtle variations in hue and meticulously designed details.
A SapienStone countertop makes the kitchen the centre of attraction in the home, especially if it’s an island in an open space layout.
It is in kitchens like this that the SapienStone countertop performs best, particularly with dramatic textures such as the marble effect of Arabescato, Calacatta Macchia Vecchia, or Pietra Grey, or the new Royal Stone collection of stone effect surfaces with their fascinating clouds, veins and crystals.

This is beauty that is preserved unaltered over the years, and will not, for example, fade with exposure to sunlight.

The sense of taste is, along with the sense of smell, definitely one of the senses most closely associated with the kitchen, because this is where we taste food and experience the thrills of cooking as an act of love for ourselves and other people.

The kitchen worktop must be high-performing and not only beautiful to look at; it must serve the function of preparing meals. SapienStone countertops are designed to provide the kitchen with the perfect sous-chef, because they are resistant, non-absorbent and easy to clean. They will not be scratched by knife blades, and can be used to cut vegetables with no need for a cutting board; their hygienic nature makes them perfect for putting together dramatic dishes directly on the countertop. They make it easy to prepare your favourite recipes and enjoy them alone or with family or friends.
SapienStone makes it easy and enjoyable to work around the countertop, sample the recipes you are preparing and make sure the flavours are perfectly balanced.

The sense of smell is said to be the most ancestral of all senses, the one most deeply connected with memory; the aromas of the kitchen and food cooking over a flame are definitely among the smells we recall most fondly.
But at the same time, there is always a risk of unpleasant odours forming in the kitchen, which is why it is so important to choose materials that are easy to clean, to help prevent and eliminate such odours.

Here too, the SapienStone countertop has a valuable contribution to make: while it can be a faithful companion in culinary alchemy, helping us recreate the fragrances of our favourite dishes, on the other hand it is so easy to clean that we can get rid of these odours in an instant whenever we want to. A little neutral detergent is sufficient to make the counter clean and fragrant once again.

Everyone recognises the sounds of the kitchen: a boiling kettle, a knife chopping something on a cutting board, clanging pots and pans, chattering cooks; the sounds of the kitchen are the sounds of home.

Meal preparation is a noisy business, and these sounds are a reassuring presence in our everyday lives. But can a kitchen countertop speak?
Food Ensemble is an experimental duo composed of a chef and a musician who helped us capture the sounds of a SapienStone countertop while a recipe was being prepared. The chef, assisted by his helper, prepared seared swordfish over whipped chlorophyll on SapienStone’s Platinum White and Black Diamond countertops, using an innovative TPB tech® Malm Black integrated induction cooker mounted flush with the countertop so that it blends right into the surface of the counter. In the meantime, the musician collected all the sounds made by the cooks in the kitchen, converted them into notes, and wrote a song: a musical expression of the voice of the SapienStone countertop.

Every SapienStone countertop is also a tactile experience, depending on the selected texture and finish. Run your fingers over it and you may feel the veins and knots of wood, the polish of marble, the roughness of stone, or the flaws of cement. SapienStone countertops tell your fingertips the story of the material that inspired them.

Perfection can not only be seen, but felt with your hands. The corners and joints of the countertop are perfect, sinks and cookers are perfectly integrated into the countertop, and the surface flows continuously under your fingertips, without the slightest interruption. All this is made possible by the large size of 320x150 cm SapienStone slabs.
The SapienStone countertop is also resistant to shocks and temperature excursions, will not be corroded by acids, and remains unchanged even after years of use.

SapienStone countertops captivate all five senses, calling up unexpected emotions. In the Feel Around The Top campaign, we discuss the sensations that may be experienced using a SapienStone countertop; ever-changing sensations that depend on our point of view, in which we all draw our own personal map of our voyage of exploration in the kitchen.
