SapienStone’s Pietra Grey countertop in a Snaidero kitchen in Dubai

2020-07-30

The Snaidero brand recently completed installation of a particularly beautiful kitchen in a villa in Dubai’s Emirates Living Community. When the time came to choose the kitchen countertop, the architects had no hesitations, choosing the beauty and durability of SapienStone’s Pietra Grey.

The project is part of a very spacious home, in which a linear kitchen is completed by a central island designed to entertain guests while meals are being prepared: a kitchen with a focus on conviviality and sharing, key values in the Arab world, renowned for its tradition of hospitality.

The chosen colours and finishes recall the current trends in Dubai, where the preference these days is for aesthetically prestigious but highly resistant natural materials. The SapienStone worktop goes perfectly with kitchen cabinetry made of wood with a pale varnish, harmonizing the hues and offering a surface capable of satisfying even the most demanding chef.

We talked to Snaidero Sales Designer Charlotte Van der Haer about the genesis of the project and kitchen trends in Dubai.

Could you tell us something about this project? What did the client want?
The client needed a very practical space, a kitchen where the whole family could cook, relax and have fun together.

Why did you choose SapienStone, and how does the Pietra Grey countertop fit into the project?
The client chose the colour of the base units and wall-mounted cabinets in the kitchen, but we were looking for a countertop that would fit harmoniously into the whole. SapienStone’s Pietra Grey has beautiful hues of brown and grey that go perfectly with the wooden finish and beige veins that go ideally with the pale colour chosen for the other elements.

What are the clients looking for in a kitchen countertop?
When the time comes to choose the countertop, the clients want something long-lasting. Something that wouldn’t be damaged by heat or get stained, and would look beautiful.

What are the current design trends in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates?
Trends in kitchens are moving toward something more natural, toward elements such as wood and stone. Marble-effect countertops are another new trend. Natural finishes are very popular, as opposed to glossy finishes.

What’s the top in the kitchen, for you?
A kitchen has to look good in the space it occupies. It shouldn’t be “over-designed”. A well-designed kitchen needs balance and harmony. It ought to offer just the right combination of sizes, textures and colours.
